The following are costs that will be considered when planning a funeral. It is important to note that pre-planning a funeral can reduce the costs of a funeral on your family or loved ones.

Embalming in the New Jersey Metropolitan Area

Embalming is the process in which a mortician will process the body for preservation purposes. The bodily fluids are replaced with formaldehyde-based chemical solutions to prevent deterioration. Then the body is cosmetically rendered with hair styling, makeup application and setting of the facial features.

Please note that embalming will not preserve the body indefinitely. If you are planning to bury the deceased promptly, eliminating the service can save hundreds of dollars, but often will prevent viewings or visitations from being possible.

Cost of a Casket in New Jersey

Caskets vary widely in style and price. What you choose will depend on what appeals to you aesthetically and your budget. Consider whether you will have a full-service funeral to help decide on the opulence of the casket. Caskets can be constructed out of metal, wood, fiberboard, fiberglass or plastic. Costs for the most expensive caskets – premium materials such as mahogany, bronze and copper – will approach $10,000.

Burial Vaults or Grave Liners

Burial containers are commonly used in traditional below-ground funerals. The vault or liner is placed in the ground before the burial of the casket or urn. These are designed to aid in the preservation of the body. Liners are made of concrete. Vaults are made of porcelain enamel, concrete, metal and other materials.

In addition to helping preserve the remains, liners and vaults aid in the prevention of the grave sinking. Grave liners and vaults can range widely in price, from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars for the most luxurious.

If you desire a below-ground vault for an urn, expect a lower average cost, but a similarly wide price range, depending on what you select for materials and durability.
